Lisa is an experienced trial lawyer who concentrates her practice on representing Florida Sheriff’s Offices, counties, and municipalities in claims brought under 42 U.S.C. §§ 1981, 1983 and 1985, as well as state law tort claims.
Lisa has experience working in both the public and private sectors in a wide range of practice areas. Lisa served as in-house counsel to a small investment banking firm in South Florida. In 2001, she joined the General Counsel’s office at the Department of Management Services (DMS) where she represented the State of Florida and DMS in various employment matters including PERC appeals, cases before the Florida Commission of Human Relations, and union contract related arbitrations hearings. Additionally, Lisa was responsible reviewing state term contracts and monitoring State Purchasing procurement procedures. She also led a team that negotiated collective bargaining contracts on behalf of the State
Lisa served in the General Counsel’s office at the Department of Corrections briefly from 2006 – 2007, again focusing on employment related issues. In 2007, Lisa returned to the private sector as Claims Counsel at Hunt Insurance Group, the third party administrator of the Florida Sheriffs Self Insurance Fund. There, she conducted risk analysis and settlement determinations on hundreds of general liability, automobile liability, and employment claims brought against Florida Sheriff’s Offices throughout the state, in addition to supervising a team of litigation attorneys assigned to represent the Sheriff’s offices on those claims.
Before entering law school in 1994, Lisa spent nine years as the Personnel Director of a nursing care agency in her home town of Buffalo, New York.
